Army Vs. Navy – Saturday, Dec. 14th
And More ...
Army Vs. Navy – as in college football! The 120th rendition of college football’s biggest rivalry is Saturday, Dec. 14 at noon God’s time (Mountain Time) on CBS. Can’t tell you what channel because it depends on your carrier. This year the two service academies have sponsors for new uniforms (no tax dollars used!). The Navy Midshipmen got sponsored by Under Armor and the Army Blackknight’s new uniforms are brought to us by Nike. I never have figured out the correct pronunciation for Nike. Is it n-long i-k-long e, or is it n-long i-silent e?
The Army’s uniform is pretty awesome. It’s “OG” green helmet features cross sabers and unit insignia from the 1st Cavalry Division regiments. On the left shoulder is the famous First Cavalry patch. I think it’s the biggest patch in the Army inventory. You’ve seen it before; a big yellow patch with a black line diagonally across the middle and a black horsehead on the top. The insignia of the 1st Cavalry patch will also be on the gloves and cleats of the players.
The First Cavalry brought about the birth of air mobility during the Viet Nam war. Also, on the front of the jersey is a patch reading, “First team” on the right chest and “ARMY” on the left chest.
Beware! Army hasn’t enjoyed the teams of the past three years. They are 5-7 after having an impressive 11-win season and the no. 19 ranking last year. Most importantly, they beat Navy 17 to 10 on Dec. 8, 2018. This year, Navy leads the rivalry 60 wins and 52 losses and 7 ties. The have a 9-2 record and are ranked 23rd nationally. To my Army patriots: go easy on the betting this year, as Navy is having a great season. However, …GO ARMY. BEAT NAVY!
On another note, Marcia and I finally made it to Pierre on Dec. 2nd and 3rd. I say finally, as we got snowed in at my mom’s for Thanksgiving in Watertown, and “had to” stay there. (I enjoyed my time hunting pheasants and deer.) We went to Pierre on Monday, Dec. 2 for the final Hemp Summer Study meeting; and then were there for the Governor’s budget address on Dec. 3rd. We had the foresight to bring dress clothes with us. Thanks be to God!
Regarding hemp: Our committee has drafted our bill and will be ready to carry it on the House floor when session starts on Jan. 14th, 2020. We’re going to start it out in the House, and then send it over to the Senate.
Regarding the Governor’s budget address: It’s actually her proposal, but it’s the legislature’s budget. Nothing happens until we pass it on the floor of the House and the Senate. I’m not going down in the weeds now on her proposed budget, but will keep you posted as we unfold it during session.
GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!
To the citizens of District 30 and to the men and women in uniform, in honor of all who served, in respectful memory of all who fell, and in great appreciation to those who serve today, Thank You, for giving me the opportunity to represent you.
