How to Register to Vote
It's Not Too Late to Register to Vote!
Greetings,
and good news! It’s not too late to
register to vote. You have 15 days
before any election to register to vote.
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 6th, back-dating 15 days
takes us to Oct. 21st. If you
get into your county courthouse (Fall River, Custer, or Pennington) before Oct.
22, you can still register to vote. If
you’d like to see the application that you fill out at the courthouse, go to
the Secretary of States website: sdsos.gov
In the general election, every registered voter gets to vote. No, that’s not a stupid statement, because in the primary elections, held this past June 5th, Republicans only could vote for Republican candidates and Democrats and Independents could vote only for their candidates. Now, in the general election, you have the opportunity to vote for whomever you feel is best. Yep, you can be a Democratic or Independent voter, and vote for a Republican and vice versa. No one knows how you vote, and measures are in place so that your vote can’t be tracked. It’s totally confidential.
I had a young man write to me via email and said up front that he wasn’t voting for me but wanted to know where he votes at now that he’s in college. I wrote back and told him that I appreciated his honest candor. He didn’t need to say how he was going to vote. The important thing is to vote. The way I view voting is that many men and women have fought and died for our freedoms in this great country. The least we should do is to express our opinion by voting. PLEASE VOTE!
Don’t forget that early voting is still taking place Monday through Friday at each county courthouse up until Nov. 5th. Then on Nov. 6th, if you haven’t voted already, you need to go to your designated voting location. Marcia and I vote in Keystone, and we are going to wait until Election Day to vote. There’s something about going to the polls on the day of the election, visiting with the volunteers, and casting your ballot. We also wear for the rest of the day the U.S. flag sticker saying that we voted. What a great country!
I’m still getting a lot of questions on the ballot measures. I’ll print again a cheat sheet that you can cut out and take with you into the voting booth. Yep, it is totally legal/okay to do that.
IM-24 = NO
IM-25 = NO
W = NO
X = YES
Z = YES
Now, this is
just my recommendation based on my research on what I think is best. You are welcome of course to vote however you
please!
Until next time…
