Republican State Convention via remote
Greetings! Summer is passing along and that means political conventions. Yep, we have to select our presidential candidates, both Republican and Democrat for the General Election held on Nov. 3rd, 2020. We had our Republican State Convention via remote this past Saturday, June 20th. Pennington County GOP (Grand Old Party), the Republican Party hosted a remote site in Rapid City at the Ramkota Hotel.
In addition to nominating a person for President, we had resolutions to vote on also. They were:
Resolution #1 – A resolution supporting President Donald Trump.
Resolution #2 – A resolution supporting South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Resolution #3 – A resolution supporting United States Senator Mike Rounds.
Resolution #4 – A resolution supporting United States Congressman Dusty Johnson.
Resolution #5 – A resolution supporting individual liberty.
Resolution #6 – A resolution supporting the United States flag and law and order.
Resolution #7 – A resolution honoring the lifetime achievement of Judy Trzynka, a long-time GOP volunteer from Codington County.
Resolution #8 – A resolution supporting Juneteenth Independence Day.
All resolutions passed except for Resolution #8, which failed. I’m sure more will come up this next Legislative Session regarding Resolution #8. A big thank you to Resolutions Chairman Ed Randazzo and his committee for putting together these resolutions.
The last item that was accomplished at our remote state convention was selection of delegates to the National GOP Convention. This year the location is Jacksonville, Florida. The dates are Aug. 24 – Aug. 28. From District 30 we were very fortunate to have 3 persons be selected to go to Jacksonville. They are Trish Ladner from Hot Springs as a delegate, Pete Burkett from Custer and yours truly Tim Goodwin as alternates who are still invited to attend. I’m ecstatic about going to the National Convention.
I first met Pres. Trump at a CPAC Conference in Washington, D.C. before he announced his candidacy for president. I had a fairly long conversation with him, as he was easily accessible because he hadn’t announced yet and just came for the day to speak. I next saw President Trump and his wife Melania (she is a goddess!) when Marcia and I went to his Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. I got to see him a 3rd time when he stopped over in Sioux Falls for a campaign fundraiser for Governor Noem. Not bad for a farm kid from Watertown, huh?
To the citizens of South Dakota and to the men and women in uniform, in honor of all who served, in respectful memory of all who fell, and in great appreciation to those who serve today, Thank You, for giving me the opportunity to represent you.
Tim R. Goodwin, District 30 Representative
