Primary Election Day is dangerously close ...
as on June 2nd!
Greetings! Primary Election Day is dangerously close, as on June 2nd! You can still vote at each county courthouse through June 1st. On June 2nd you vote at your regular voting location. Marcia and I vote at the Community Center in Keystone.
Absentee Ballots need to be delivered by the post office no later than June 2nd. Did you know you can track your absentee ballot on the Secretary of State’s website? You can also view a sample ballot for your district. Visit the voter information portal at sdsos.gov
If you didn’t return your absentee ballot, you can still vote on June 2nd, but you can’t do both, meaning you returned your absentee ballot and vote in person.
When you pull up the website, you will see a picture of the Secretary of State Steve Barnett, and below are the category selections, such as Elections and Voting. On the right side in red letters in a box, it reads voter information (VIP)

So, click on absentee ballot and you will be able to see if your ballot has been delivered to the auditor of your respective county. The reason I am mentioning this is that if you didn’t put postage on your “big envelope” and you didn’t have a return address in the top left hand corner, chances are your ballot wasn’t delivered by the post office. It went into a dead file. If you did put postage on your ballot in the “big envelope” and it was short, as in not enough postage, the auditor’s office is accepting the ballot and paying the remaining postage due.
This, in my opinion, was poorly executed, as the government paid for your postage to send in your application for an absentee ballot, but didn’t pay for your postage to send in your vote (ballot).
So, recap one more time (I promise, until Nov. 3rd):
-Send in your absentee ballot to arrive at your county’s auditor’s office no later than June 2nd. My best guess is mail by May 29th, but I have zero control over post office deliveries.
-Go early vote at your county auditor’s office before June 2nd.
-Regular Primary voting day, June 2nd, you can vote at your regular voting location, barring any last minute changes.
My plea to you the voters of this district is to please exercise your constitutional right and vote. Thank you!
To the citizens of South Dakota and to the men and women in uniform, in honor of all who served, in respectful memory of all who fell, and in great appreciation to those who serve today, Thank you, for giving me the opportunity to represent you.
Tim R. Goodwin, District 30 Representative
